CDs and ConnectED

Hi, Everyone!

I've just posted some tips on using the CD Roms and troubleshooting ConnectED to the shared drive.  In the "staff" folder, there is a folder called "Texas Treasures."  Inside that folder, you will see a "Troubleshooting CDs and ConnectED" folder.  The documents are inside that folder.

I hope this helps you add even more terrific technology to your already thriving classrooms!

Questions and Answers from McGraw Hill

Teachers,

Please see the answers to questions that came up during our training and afterwards.  Thank you, Mrs. Bryant, for obtaining these.

  1. Are the spelling cards listed on the grades 1-2 components checklist the same as the word building cards mentioned in the TE? If not, will we receive the word building cards? No, the large sound spelling cards are the long cards with photo in the front and instruction on back; you do not receive the word building cards—however you can print them from the Teacher Resource Book
  2. It is my understanding that AISD purchase Option 1, below are several questions for this section:
    1. It is my understanding that we will only receive one item of each of the items listed under option 1 during the adoptions life time. Is this correct and/or are there any exceptions. You will get 1 of each item unless otherwise noted.  Also the first year only all school districts will receive a class set of practice books
  3. In the TE I noticed information on the following: listening library, new adventures with buggles and beezy and fluency solutions.  Will we receive these items. If not, how would we see a sample to determine if this is something we would like to purchase? What is the cost of these materials? All available for purchase, you may visit www.mheonline.com for prices.
  4. The TE mentions a leveled classroom library and response to intervention.  Regarding the leveled classroom, is that different from the leveled guided reading books, if so, are we receiving the leveled classroom library? The classroom library available for purchase (not the same as leveled readers).
The classroom leveled library was only given to Kinder because it was part of the core instruction.  It is not for the rest of the grade levels.
  1. Did AISD purchase subscriptions to the leveled reader database? If so, how do we access it? Yes, through ConnectED.   The leveled reader database is free.
  2. I noticed icons for audio CD throughout the TE, will we receive these? Available for purchase.  Remember that you have the stories on audio through Student Works so you do not need to purchase them.
  3. Grade 1 - Unit 2 TE - page 11H at the bottom of the page mentions "Practice at Home Have children take home the blackline master of Show What You Know selection to read to a family member". Where is this blackline master found? Home School Connection available on ConnectED and TW
  4. Are the assessments available online. If so, can students respond to the assessments online? Available on ConnectED and TW; students cannot respond
  5. Where are the "big questions" (unit theme questions) located in the bilingual TEs? La Gran Pregunta (aka Big Question) found at the beginning of each TE
  6. When you save things (highlights/notes) in the student ebooks, does the page save or is it the entire book? Students have to log on and their highlighted words will be saved and the notes are saved

Textbook Components

Teachers,

In your boxes we placed a list of the Texas Treasures components that you should receive along with your new textbooks.  Please note that the district purchased OPTION ONE (1).

We hope this helps as you inventory your items and make room for all of this stuff!

Enjoy!

Scavenger Hunt Winners!

Thank you to all of the teams who dove into their TEs and turned in a scavenger hunt response sheet.  Wow!  You guys are FAST!

We had three teams win (two teams turned in theirs at exactly the same time)! Congratulations to our primary wing: Kinder, First and Second!  You ALL are amazing!

We hope you enjoy digging into the new textbook.  Don't forget to post all of your insights to this blog.

Thanks again!
